Updates

June 22, 2011

Ever since the ban on online poker in the U.S things have changed quite a lot. For one the weekly tournaments are much smaller so its hard to get as motivated to play them even though the fields are super super easy. I continue to play tournaments every sunday obviously since everything is still very big, but nowadays during the week and whenever i feel like playing, i sit down and play anywhere from 2/4 to 5/10 PLO. I have been doing this for around a month now and i am really enjoying it. I wake up every day looking forward to playing PLO and its kind of a nice mix being able to play whenever i want for however long i want during the week, playing some turbos here and there and then playing full sundays like normal.

Around a month ago i had my first decent score in a very long time. I shipped the brawl on sunday for around 55k which was definitely a very well needed. Last week i had a breakeven sunday after doing nothing all day but coming third in the sunday supersonic on stars (the hyper turbo) for around 15k or something. Yesterday Sunday came back around and i had a good day once again but it could have been a lot better. I came 5th in the 100r on pokerstars (the big morning one) for 14k something. I lost 4 giant tosses at final table AK to 1010 AK to 99 and AJ to 99 the only 3 tosses i got in but lost them all, nothing i can do at that point so ended up coming fifth which was a little dissappointing because obviously who doesnt want to win for 50k. But anywho life goes on. I kept playing and had a couple deep runs in some turbos, came 3rd in the 100r turbo on ftp for around 4k, came 9th in the 200 x 2 chance for nothing like 1k(lost the hugest pot with 9 left) and then ft bubbled the 100+1+1 6max on ftp. All in all a very good day ended up making around 7k or so and having some deep runs is all you can really ask for on a sunday.

I will be heading to vegas in a week or so probably to see the Poker Phenoms group and hang out with everyone for 5 days or so. I am still 20 so i can't have any fun in vegas yet really but its still never a bad thing to go somewhere nice and sunny to relax and seeing all of the boys. A shoutout to the Vancouver Canucks after losing game 7 of the stanley cup finals. I have always been a huge Canucks / hockey fan, played my whole life and always loved the game. I spent 5k and brought my dad to game 7 which unfortunately ended up badly for our side. So that really really sucked but i know they'll be back giving it a run next year, they have a great team and hopefully they can pull it off next time.Anyways, theres my little update im off to walk my dogs and then will be grinding some PLO. Check out my videos on our new site www.pokerphenoms.com

Sicko Sunday!

October 18, 2010

Hey everyone,

Yesterday was once again the poker players, favourite, and most hated day of the week.Started off pretty badly for me as usual, but the day is just so long that obviously you just have to grind your way through it regardles of how good or bad you run. All you need is 1 tournament going right from about 40 and you'll have yourself a great day.So, finallllly after about 8-9 hours of playing with not much going right, a switch flipped and things started happening....in 1 tournament anyway.Ended up winning the 100fo on stars for 23k, and at the same time,(which is a 1000000x bigger accomplishment),my girlfriend came 2nd in the 150r on full tilt for 43k =).Was a crazy surprise, since shes just started playing online poker, and was a live player before.Has probably played less than 100 tournaments online and ended up coming second in one of the biggest tournaments on sunday with definitely id say the toughest field by far with one of the better structures.I was completely amazed and really proud for someone thats just starting to do so sick in such a tough tournament! I have played with her many times and have taught her quite a bit, but wasnt even playing with her yesterday and 0% help and came 2nd on her own which is really really sick.So shoutout to hazel, a.k.a kukuchacha on full tilt, so proud of you <3 you're amazing! So that sums up a pretty sick sunday, watchout for the next purplepils99 Wink.Gl to everyone, see you at the tables!

Wcoop/Ept london down...Bcpc's to go

October 04, 2010

Hey everyone,

So here i am sitting in my hotel room at 2am in london, after finishing a day of grinding online.I look back at the last couple of months with a little dissapointment, but feeling much more confident with my game.I went through ftops with bricks, went to calgary, came back with nothing, play wcoop with very few deep runs, came to london with a lot of hope which got washed away pretty quickly. There have been very few bright sides about the past 2/3 months, one of them being a lot of live experience, 2nd of them being making day 2 in ept london main event, and busting around 50 off the money(pretty deep)But for the first time could feel that i had just crushed the whole event, making many sick sick moves in sick spots and putting a ton of pressure on people, which worked extremely well.I built a stack early and was like a roller coaster throughout most of the tournament, playing a large % of pots and winning and losing heaps at a time, which was fun of course.

However, probably the best day pokerwise ive had in months came about a week ago.I played a full session online, came 2nd in the 75$ 6max on full tilt for 3900, chopped the 200 turbo on fulltilt headsup for 12,300, and won the 50r on stars outright for 11,500.I have been running dry in poker forever and finally got a day like this to really boost the confidence, in which we all know is most definitely one of the biggest factors in poker. With all the downs that have come in the past 2 months, losing a lot of money and having a lot of expenses, ive somehow managed to stay very optimistic and trying to find the good out of everything that has happened, which is very tough to do in poker when things are going badly but i think its very important to atleast try to stay as positive as possible. As bad as it can get in poker,(mentally and moneywise of course)it is most definitely one of the best lives someone can have, being a professional poker player and travelling the world to play large events, so regardless of how bad i am doing at any point i my life, i will always be very thankful that my career has turned out the way it has and anyone who can make good money from poker is extremely lucky.

I am heading back to vancouver on the 6th of october(in a couple of days)and i am really realllllllllly looking forward to getting home.I had to leave my girlfriend at home/she couldnt make it so am missing her like crazy and just being at home and back on the grind.Live events are always really fun, but being in london for 2 and a half weeks is a long time, since i am not big on going out and sight seeing, as im sure most poker players feel the same.Probably the only live event that i could literally stay at forver is PCA which is just the absolute best ever, and am really looking forward to that coming up again in a couple of months, so fast!!!!I wish you all the best of luck, see you guys at the tables.Again if anyone has any questions or comments about anythin, or any of my videos or whatnot feel free to send me a message, thanks for all the support.See you around.

Busy couple of months.

September 02, 2010

Hey everyone,

So ive been really busy lately(pokerwise of course) and am going to be super busy for the next couple of months with a ton of huge stuff. There was the ftops a couple of weeks ago, right after that me and my friends went to calgary for a pretty decent sized series of tournaments for 10days, we just got back and now WCOOP is starting, during the middle of WCOOP i am going to london for wsope and ept london, and then when i get back, a couple of weeks later are BCPC's(a series of tournaments held where i live in vancouver which is always sick and really fun).So just a ton of huge stuff coming up, i have ran really bad for the past couple of months so hopefully try to turn it around and hit some huge scores and get things rolling again.I also have to make a couple more live videos for pokernewsstrategy so i will be doing that as well.Anyway just a quick little update, dont really have much time lately, so see you guys at the tables, gl everyone.

Hey everyone,

Well last sunday as im sure all of you may or may not know, but jymaster11 won the brawl and 750k for like 230k total or something ridiculous, so i cant really stack up to that, but i found a tournment in which he did not win, the 150k 163$ tournament at noon.I chopped it HU for 47k, so after sunday after sunday without results, finally pick up a solid one....and great timing right before ftops and scoop. Also, i'm going to the canadian poker championships in Calgary, which is from august 19th to august 29th.It has like 3-4 1k's, 5k HU, 2k, and a couple 500's so if anyone is interested you should definitely consider going to that, im sure it will be sick.Anyway just a quick little update for you guys.Ill try to keep you guys updated as much as possible.See you guys at the tables.

Sunday Funday

July 05, 2010

Hey everyone,

So yesterday was once again the dreaded sunday, but as so rarely happens i did actually have a profitable and pretty decent day.It started off really well which is always a good sign, i won the 44$ turbo on stars right away after a couple hours of playing for 3k, i then went deep in the 50+1+1 on ftp, wich was pretty dissapointing because i played really well just crushing everyone to build a huge stack then just kept losing toss after toss which kinda sucked but it was still pretty early in the day so there were many more chances to still hit something so i didnt care that much, so i just put it behind me and kept playing.

I played for 3-4 more hours staying in a couple of decent sized tournies, and the 100$ turbo cashout started.I ended up coming 6th in the turbo cashout(but went into the table as CL so got 1500 automatically which is pretty good for that tournament since its usually prety small)but then lost a huge toss AK to 99 Axxx9 and then lost AA to A7o allin pre to same guy so busted that, but donkaments so w.e.

I was then deep in a couple of tournaments, the daily 90k on stas(50$FO that has 5k ppl and pays 40k for the win) and the 24k 75$ on ftp which paid 15k.I played for another couple of hours and came top 50 or so in the daily 90k after playing for 8hours, get paid pretty much nothing, opened utg with 99 2 flats, flop 91010 i cont bet 1 flat, turn K i check he bets half pot i make a small raise he shoves i snap obv.He shows AA and rivers a 10 for around 750 or 800k at 3.5k 7k so that was a monster pot whch really sucked but at this point i was at the final table of the 24k so it didnt feel quite so bad.Thankfully, i did end up just crushing the 24k, building a monster stack and just running over the whole table and winning. So all in all a profitable sunday is always pretty thrilling =p.Ill continue to keep you guys updated, gl at the tables everyone, see you around.

Back to the mtts =)

June 26, 2010

Hey everyone,

So after taking a pretty long break (besides sundays) from tourneys, i was kinda craving grinding tournaments once again. I started back again last saturday, i didnt do much the whole day but as the main point of super turbo tournaments, i came 3rd in the big saturday night 256$ super turbo for 8-9k so after a long day of grinding and ft bubbles that suddenly put me up on the day which is always a good start when getting back into tournies.A couple days later, i won the 100 freezeout on pokerstars for 9500, and then today i just finished shipping the 200$ morning PLO tournament for 9550.So just getting back into mtts and have had a pretty good week so far =).Tomorrow is once again sunday, so ill try to keep my hotstreak going and maybe ship a major or two Wink.Oh and also, just a little thing to add, I just got the game blur for xbox 360, and if any of you have an xbox i highly recommend getting it.Its pretty much mario kart with sick graphics and real cars lol, and im sure many of you have seen the commercial for it(is pretty epic) so that is definitely a must get game, super addictive and really fun lol.Just thought id add that to the little brag post heh.Anyway gl at the tables everyone, see ya around.

Pokernews strat launched/sunday

June 13, 2010

Hey everyone,

So its pretty exciting that pokernews strategy has finally launchbed =).We have a team full of sickos, great PLO players great Nl grinders great HU players and some sick mtt players.I have a really good feeling that its going to be huge, ive watched some of the cash game guy's videos and they are really good and obviously some really skillful high level players so there is a ton to learn and some great videos for advanced to just starting players, so go have a look when you can!On the first live video i ever made i ended up winning a tournament (75$ 40k on full tilt) and i rewatched that video and is pretty fun to watch, even when i was first starting out i really enjoyed watching live videos instead of HH replayers etc etc so im going to try to make as many live vids as i can for you guys and mix in a couple replayer vids here and there to show some of my big wins just incase the live recordings dont go so well since obviously i cant win a tournament every time i do a recording(if only =p).

So today was once again sunday, as i have said in some of my previous blogs i am grinding 2-4 to 5/10 PLO on weekdays and then playing mtts on some saturdays and obviously every sunday.I had a couple of deep runs today in a bunch of different tournaments and was playing really solid, but unfortunately it didnt workout and i couldt hit a big score like i was looking for but thats ok ill continue playing every big tournament every sunday like everyone else and hopefully hit a nice score again one of these days.By playing cash during the weekdays and just playing mtts strictly on sundays, i am finding i am enjoying mtts a lot more and i think playing a lot better and having more fun doing it.So as of now i really enjoy what i am doing and think it is the way im going to keep it going for as long as i can.So after a semi-dissapointing day of tournaments its back to the grind, so if any of you guys subscribe to pokernews strat(which hopefully many of you do since its going to be a great site) please feel free to msg me with suggestions/what you think about some of my videos since i have only made a couple lifetime and would like to get some good feedback with things i can change/improve on.See you guys at the tables and goodluck.

Grinding plo cash

June 01, 2010 1 comments

Hey everyone,

Hey guys, so since the scoop i pretty much have a plan set out, i wake up go to the gym, come home have dinner and then grind 2/4-5/10 6max PLO cash games. And the only day of mtts i play are sundays of every week because obviously i would never miss those, and play nightly hyper and super turbos when i feel like it obviously.I just got worn down by the scoop without hitting any scores and losing a bunch of money so i felt like it was time to change it up a little bit.

I started out playing 5/10 PLO and immediately made around 15-25k and was really pumped and stoked on grinding it and had a really good playing style planned out for the game and am really confident.I keep track of all my sessions on a spreadsheet and keep it really organized, but as we all know the game of PLO is super high variance, and even though the way i play i try to lower the variance as much as possible, pretty much only flatting pre etc etc i then went on a pretty big downswing and just had a ton of losing days in a row and got kinda killed, but its expected while playing plo so im going to keep it up for a while atleast, even while losing its a really nice change from mtts, i get excited and want to play as much as possible.Mtts were just getting really stressful playing all day every day and i was getting angry whenever i lost hands so i think it was definitely time for a change.Going to try this out for atleast a month or 2 more and see how it goes, if it goes really well and i start turning it around i might just keep going for a long time while playing sundays as well of course and then try to move up stakes as i go along.Anyway, ill try to keep you guys updated as much as possible, hopefully i go on an upswing soon and have a lot to talk about =) gl everyone, see you at the tables.
