My Fitness Challenge

Hey guys!

Because of the amazing experience I've had with my Under Armour girls during the What's Beautiful challenge, I decided to start a ftiness challenge to the poker community. I know lots of you want to become healthier and get in shape, but haven't had the motivation to get started. STOP WAITING! Let's all do it together!

First off, I want you to set a goal for June. It can be anything that will ultimately make you healthier and happier. I want you to set your bar high, but also make sure your goal is realistic and achievable. Your goal can be to eat clean everyday, to work out 5 days a week, to run a certain number of miles over the course of the month, WHATEVER YOU WANT.

Set it, commit, and make a plan. How are you going to achieve your goal? Perhaps set some smaller progress goals that will allow you to achieve your month’s goal. Then tell me about it! snaptress@gmail.com

I posted a calendar for extra challenges and so that you can keep track of your progress and stay motivated along the way.

Here’s an explanation:

Max Out Monday – I want you do as many pushups/burpees as you can muster. Write down the number. See if you can’t do more each week.

New Stretch – Every Tuesday, I’ll show you a new stretch. I hope you’ll need it because your ass will be sore as hell ☺

Get your ass moving Wednesday – Doesn’t sound as catchy as Max-Out Monday but you get the point. Get moving! Go run. If you can’t run, walk. If you can’t walk, row, bike, ANYTHING! Just get your heart rate up!

New Exercise – Every Thursday, I’ll show you a new exercise to add to your repertoire.

Flex Friday – Show off!

Saturday – I’m going to give away prizes to a couple people each week who are really working hard. I admit the prizes will be small such as a copy of a poker book, a t-shirt, or poster, but I wanted to try to help motivate you guys!

Take pictures/videos of yourself completing the challenges and path to your goal and post them! Make sure you tag me so I can see them! Twitter- @kristyarnett or Instagram: @snaptress and HASHTAG #kristyfitnesschallenge so everyone can see each other’s progress!

I’m also going to put you all on an email list to send you motivational stuff every now and then! You can obv opt out of that at any time!

Good luck!
<3 Kris

Online Poker is Back in Nevada!

Online is back!

Well, sort of. A couple weeks ago, Ultimate Poker opened to players who are physically within Nevada state lines. Players who live anywhere in the world can register and play when they are in the state. After more than two years without online poker, I was ecstatic at the opportunity to mash some buttons. Here is the video blog I made about playing on the site for the first time!

There problem with Verizon phones is now fixed, which should really help the numbers. Whooo hooo! Hopefully they will make software available for downloads on Macs. I ain't putting Windows on my Apple!

I haven't been able to play since make this video because I've been traveling. I'm here in Monaco for the PokerStars and Monte Carlo Casino EPT Grand Final! This place is amazing but expensive as hell! I'm trying not to go broke and also keep up with my fitness stuff.

I've been doing Yoga all over the place The next pose was one that I thought was IMPOSSIBLE before. It feels so good to conquer the peacock!

Hope you all are doing well! I'm going to propose a fitness challenge! Stay tuned

Hey guys!

I just got back from a trip of a lifetime to Seoul, South Korea and to Tokyo, Japan. I plan on writing a long blog about the trip, but for now, it's all about POKER!

I played my first APPT Main Event while in Seoul. It didn't go too well, but I discussed my experience in an episode of Strategy with Kristy.

The Harlem Shake Story

Once upon a time, there was this video:

It started getting a lot of hits, and then other people did their own versions:

I thought it would be funny if Sarah Grant and I did our own version just for a little extra jizz at the end of our PokerNews Weekly video. Then, we figured we might as well put it up as its own video on YouTube.

Then, THE HARLEM SHAKE BLEW THE F*** UP!

And someone made a compilation video using our version at the very beginning of the video.

That video has 1.3 million views. That many people has seen Sarah and I act like IDIOTS in what we thought was just going to be an off the cuff throw-in for another video. LOL. Face palm. OMG. SMH.

The end.

Small Improvements

Hey guys!

Just checking in. How are your New Year's Resolutions going? Do I need to kick your ass?

As you guys saw from my last blog update, my main resolution is to complete 30-Day Challenges every month (among other goals). This month was to do Yoga everyday. So far, so good

When I started doing Yoga a couple of months ago, I felt defeated at first. I thought the poses that really inspired me were going to be impossible. Like this:

This girl is someone who I came to know while doing the Under Armour Women contest. Her name is Kacey, she won the competition, and it's obvious to see why. (She's @kaceyac on Instagram)

One of the biggest reasons why people fail at meeting their goals is because it's hard to see the end. You have to celebrate your small success along the way to keep you motivated. See every improvement as yourself getting closer to achieving the ultimate payoff.

I decided to take a few pictures to see if I've made any progress in my flexibility. At first, I was disappointed because of course, I wanted to see a GIANT step. But, as I said, I have to be proud of the subtle improvements I've made. I am closer to this particular goal than I was a month ago, right?

Well, you have to start somewhere! Here's a new one too:

Which I want to eventually look like this:

I'm going to end with the following picture, because this pose is the one that really got me into yoga. It requires an incredible amount of flexibility and STRENGTH! (Currently, I can't even begin to try this one or get off the ground)

Now GOOOOOO!!!

2013 Goals and Resolutions

Happy New Year! I'm ready to make 2013 my B****! How about you?

Now that the hangover from NYE celebrations has subsided, I'm as ready as ever to accomplish some big goals. My main New Year's Resolution is to do a 30-Day Challenge every single month of 2013. The concept is incredibly simple, but I think the results can be life changing.

For January, I'm doing Yoga everyday. Each month I'll pick something new that either I've always wanted to try or that will help achieve some of my bigger goals. Some of my smaller goals include:

--finishing National Novel Writing Month (write 50,000 words in November). I've wanted to do this for the past 6 years and have never been able to get myself to commit
-- be a pescetarian for a month
-- call a friend or relative everyday for a month
-- 10-day juice fast
-- play poker for a minimum of 40 hours a month
-- Study writing
-- Study nutrition
-- Run a marathon/complete a half ironman
-- Become more confident/assertive

A few months ago, I tweeted the following video that begs the question, "If money were no object, how would you really enjoy spending your life?" Do you know?

I'm still in the process of really figuring that out, but I do know a few things. I know that I love to write, I love living a healthy lifestyle, and that making others laugh or feel inspired is incredibly rewarding. So, with that, here are my big goals for 2013:

Write a book
Compete in Fitness America (November)
Win Pro Card (Fitness Competition) <-- First competition date marked is an NPC event on April 13.

In addition to these goals, I also want to make sure my close relationships remain my top priority. Ambition is great, but not if it's blinding. You don't want to reach the top of mountain with no around. Well, at least I don't. I want lots of people there, slapping my ass saying, "Great climb, champ!" Make sense?

I'm going to keep track of my goals and progress very closely via my blog, some on twitter, but lots on instagram (so don't follow me if you don't like food pics). I want to do this so I keep myself accountable because I have given up so many times. These are going to be my two mottos this year:

Get after what you want! It may seem impossible, but you'll never know unless you actually try. And if you don't try then you'll regret it. And then you die. So ya, GET YOUR ASS MOVING!

And listen, you're going to meet obstacles. Some of the obstacles might even be your so called friends. People love to hate or bring down others because they'll see something in you that they wish they could do. Don't stop!!! Arnold didn't!!

Not sure what present to buy a poker player this holiday season ?

Don't worry or cry or FREAK OUT

Because I've compiled a list of ideas for you!

I know, you love me now

***Disclaimer: The specific items I listed are things that I own, use and love. I'm not benefiting in any way from promoting these items/products/subscriptions.

Small gifts

Poker tracking app
This is a great gift for a live poker player. There are a few to choose from, but the app I use is Poker Journal. It's simple, intuitive, and professional. - Price: $12.99

Screen shots from the iTunes store:

Plastic Cards
Plastic cards are much more expenseive than paper because they are durable. They are water proof and can be washed in the dishwasher! Also, the smooth surface makes the cards slide nicely on felt. Copags are a good choice, but I like the feel of (Kem) cards a bit better. - Price: $28

Poker Book
There are books now for every kind of player and variation of poker -- tournaments, cash games, mixed games, you name it. But, if there is one book that I think every poker player can learn from, it's (Mental Game of Poker). Price: $20 (paperback)

Big Gifts

Headphones
Let's be serious, poker players or not, everyone wants a pair of headphones, right? There are so many different kinds, (buds, over-the-ear, noise-cancelling, etc), but my favorite are the (Bose MIE2i). They are somewhat noise cancelling, but I can still hear the action at the table if I need to. I love the in-ear design because I can wear them for hours with absolute comfort. Also, if someone calls, I can answer the phone easily with the a press of a button. For those who don't have iPhones, there is another Bose earbuds variation - Price $116

Smart Tablet
Ok I don't have this one, but it's on MY list!
iPad Mini - Price: $329-$659

Gifts that keep on giving

Subscription to Music
Since players spend hours on end grinding, music makes great company. Pandora is free, but you can pay for a subscription to skip commercials. I would suggest (Spotify). If you aren't familiar, it is a digital music service that gives you access to millions of songs (pretty much anything mainstream). You can stream or download on any kind of device (there is a free version with ads but you can only use it on a desktop or laptop) - Price: $9.99/month

Audible Account
Instead of listening to music while grinding, an audiobook is also a great choice! Audible has a huge selection of audiobooks, and if you consume more than one a month, a subscription is the way to go. For $14.95/month, you get one credit which gets you one audiobook (average price per book without a subscription is around $23). Your credits never go bad and if you run out, you get discounted prices.

Subscription to a Training Site
Poker players need to constantly improve in order to stay on top of their game. Training sites are a great way to do that. CardRunners and LeggoPoker both have superb content and supportive communities, but I guess I'm a little partial to (Deuces Cracked) because the two video series I got to do with DC coach Andrew Seidman called Coaching Kristy. Price: $29/month (you can also be bi-yearly or yearly for a discount)

That's all I can think of for now! I hope this helps and he/she drools over the present you got them!

Happy holidays!!

<3Kris

Yoga and stretching

I have to admit that I've scoffed a few times at the idea of doing yoga, but I've recently decided to give it a try for a few reasons:

1) some poses look cool as balls

This broad is amazing! She's @laurasykora on instagram

2) my body is starting to feel old as fug

3) I need to become more flexible to reach my next fitness goal of competing in Fitness America.

This is an example of a Fitness America routine. For the record, I'm SOOO far from this goal it's ridiculous, but I'm determined.

I've been stretching everyday for the past couple of weeks, and it feels sooooo good. Here's where I'm at right now:

Especially for you poker players out there, I can't tell you how much stretching will help your body. For me, it also calms my mind. You don't have to do yoga per say, but just do a few stretches in the morning and at night. Try it! What's the worst the could happen? Let me know how it goes
