Taylor Caby Interview, FTOPs Final Table, Isildur1 Revealed

November 30, 2009

Hey Guys,

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and sorry for the delay in the blog. There honestly hasn't been much to write about this past month. I just did a recent interview with Card Runners founder Taylor Caby where he talks about www.trulyfreepokertraining.com and where he will be giving away 1% of himself for a chance to win $500K in the Full Tilt tournament. Check out the interview here: http://www.pokernews.com/online-poker/interviews/online-poker-spotlight-taylor-caby-6109.htm

I played a ton of FTOPs this past month and I had one good result where I final tabled the PLO $535 mtt. Unfortunately I got 6th place for $13K(had to give buddy $6K too), but I really can't complain as its still a good pay for just one day. The way I went out is another story....I flopped top set (JJJ) with a king high flush draw and the guy called my all-in on the flop with just QQ, and one outed me on the river by spiking the Q. I thought I was going to break my keyboard and mouse, but I just sat there in disbelief as my stomach dropped. I have never felt so sick in my life as that would have put me in top three. That left two players with only 90k and the three others 600k+. What can you do though, its life, and you just have to move on!

Mr. Tony G in his latest blog reveals online poker phenom Isilidur1 is Viktor Blom. I've also heard that Viktor is blom92 on Ipoker. This guy is a nut job! He has been 6-8 tabling Ivey, durrrr, and Antonius all at the same time at the 500/1000 games. I give him mad props though. Read all about it on Tony G's Blog: http://www.tonygpoker.com/blog/my-opinion-of-what%E2%80%99s-going-on-and-isildur1.html

Have a good day and best of luck to you all!

Pnews Strat, FTOPS Schedule, Interview, Phil Ivey in Cabo(Video), Lake Burton

October 27, 2009

Hey m8's,

I hope everyone is doing well, and crushing the poker tables. Sorry about the delay in the blog as I have been busy building pnews strategy. Yes, were going to do it right this time and it should be good content for you guys. We have a very good lineup right now, but I will get more into that in the next blog.

FTOPS starts November 4th, so if you haven't seen the schedule check it out here:
http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/promotions/full-tilt-online-poker-series/schedule.php

I just did an interview with Michael Tureniec who is a big Swedish player that is sponsored by Full Tilt. He is in first place at the final table of the Partouche Poker Tour which resumes Nov 21st.
http://www.pokernews.com/news/2009/10/online-poker-spotlight-michael-tureniec-7453.htm

BTW I am going to do an interview with Luke "Full Flush" Schwartz this next wk. If you guys have any questions you want me to ask him, let me know or leave me a comment.

Phil Ivey ballin it up in Cabo(www.pokerroad.com)

This past wknd I went up to Lake Burton(North GA, 10 mins outside of North Carolina) with a bunch of friends and we had a blast. Lake Burton is probably the nicest lake I have ever seen, its absolutely gorgeous. Here are some pics:

WSOPE Main Event Sickest Hand Ever (Vid)

October 03, 2009 2 comments

I thought I just would make a quick post and share this with you guys. The hand was between Daniel Negreanu and Barry Shulman (Card Player owner and Jeff Shulmans dad). This is when they were heads up at the final table of the WSOPE. Have a good weekend!

The embed code wasn't working so click on this link:

http://www.thenutz.tv/videodetail.php?video_id=70175

They deleted the video now, sorry.

Here is the main quote from www.espn.com. For full article go here http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/poker/news/story?id=4522923

With Negreanu holding the chip lead, he held Q-J against Shulman's pocket aces. The flop came 5d-8d-Jc and with top pair, Shulman led out, Negreanu raised and Shulman moved all-in. After some contemplation Negreanu made the call and realized he was in some major trouble. The turn was another jack, putting Negreanu in the lead and needing to dodge only the two remaining aces in the deck for him to become world champion.

And then there was the ace of diamonds on the river to silence the crowd, make Negreanu hate poker and give Shulman all he needed to finish off "Kid Poker" for the title.

In the video you see the crowd goes nuts when Negreanu spikes the J on the turn, and Shulmans wife literally goes ballistic for 2 mins when the Ace spikes.

New Bloggers/Interview, Round 2 with Biloxi, lotsss of Vids

September 29, 2009

Hey Guys,

I hope everyone is doing well! I am sorry for the delay in the blog as I have been busy with trying to come up with some new features for pnews that I think you guys would like. Hopefully they will go through soon. We have two new bloggers who have joined us this past month, Lex “RaSZi” Veldhuis http://my.pokernews.com/RaSZi/vegas-and-double-u-coop.htm and Billy “patrolman35/durangodan35” Kopp http://my.pokernews.com/BillyKopp/unproductive-sunday.htm. This past week I sat down and interviewed Matt “plattsburgh” Vengrin who had a very productive WCOOP and he also talks about why he left Full Tilt for Absolute Poker. Check it out: http://www.pokernews.com/online-poker/interviews/online-poker-spotlight-matt-plattsburgh-vengrin-6095.htm

As for poker, these past months tourneys(wcoops) have raped me to say the least. I have decided no more tourneys and I will just keep playing PLO cash since I have been winning at it decently well. I have been using Card Players free pokertracker(at the top right of their page) since I don’t run poker tracker or holdem manager, but God you don’t realize how much you spend in tourneys daily or monthly, until you look at it. I saw Jon “PearlJammer” Turner saying on his twitter that he was spending 7.5k on one day then 7k the next day. http://www.pokernews.com/online-poker/twitter-poker-pros/ Geezus that’s a lot! BTW I also went to Biloxi this past wknd and got rocked yet again. I said last time I lost about $1,800 in Casino games, but yet had brought my laptop and made $4,200 playing PLO while there. This time I lost $3,400 on casino games. It all started out with me and my 5 friends going over to The Hardrock Casino, and me ordering us 10 shots to get warmed up…..I know, smart play. I tell everyone were going to play Texas Holdem Bonus poker. If you don’t know much about it, it’s a very simple game to understand. First, you have to put your “ante” out there or your bet. There is also a bonus which you should always play for $5. Even if your cards are 7-2 you’re supposedly never supposed to fold in this game and always see a flop. You always have to bet “double” the amount of your ante to see the flop. The turn and river you can check, but it if you decide not to check the turn or river and bet it, the bet has to be the size of your ante. In conclusion after 3 days, I got rivered three times for about $2,800. You never get to see the dealers two cards until everything is dealt out. Blackjack also cost me a good $300 and same with 3 card poker. I did play one $40 tourney at the Hard Rock and made the final table, but JJ<KK first hand too. Overall, there were plenty of drinks and beautiful women at the Hard Rock so it ended up being ok for me. The US POKER Championships was also going on at the Beau Rivage while I was staying there. Chad Brown had a sick run. He won the PLO $535 rebuy and won the Main Event too. There were several big names there such as Vanessa Russo, Josh Arieh, Brian “Sn8wman” Hawkins, Ryan Welch, and Matt “mattg1983” Graham.

As for sports wise, my fantasy team is killing me and Tom Brady is not performing like he should Smile. At least the Falcons are 2-1 and looking good for the most part. I don’t know if you guys watched most of the US OPEN, but it was disappointing to see Federer lose to Del Potro. Del Potros forehand is a monster though, and he just outplayed him. At least a my buddy(John Isner) who I had played doubles in the earlier years beat Andy Roddick and my old college teammate(Jesse Witten) had a sick run.

Here are some random videos and articles, but I think they are all a good share : ). I forgot to say, I saw Ferry Corsten in concert two weeks ago…simply amazing.

Have a good week and GL to you all!

WCOOP, Nice MTT Wins, Brett Favre, Tiger or Roger: Who is more dominant?

September 01, 2009

Hi Guys,

As you know the WCOOP starts in two days from now. Here is a complete list of the scheduled tournaments. http://www.wcoop.com/ GL to all of you who play!

This past week I chopped the 109 turbo on Tilt for $4,300 and got 2nd in the PLO $33 rebuy for $2k. Def a good week to say the least, but the stress is still there as I have been swinging $1-9K days in PLO at 5/10-10/20. I know I said I would drop down in the last blog because of the stress, but I am a degenerate Smile. I actually have been doing very well at 30/60 fixed limit, or basically making me break even from my PLO losses. As I was reading Brian Townsends blog yesterday, I def agree with him that fixed limit might be where most of the weaker players are. Most people seem to have a good understanding at NL and are decent for the most part. PLO is slowly becoming that way IMO.

BTW, to all the die hard NFL fans, do you think Brett Favre came back because he was pissed at the Packers and wanted some revenge(obv Vikings are rival), or because he missed football in general? That was an article I read on ESPN the other day, I would have to say he wants to pwn the Packers for sure! It probably is a combination of both.

Tiger or Roger, who is more dominant? That is very tough to call, both are exceptional athletes. I am probably biased since I am a tennis player and have known and trained with some of the bigger pros on the APT tour my whole life. Roger is a lot younger and has won 15 majors compared to Tigers 14(i think its that). If you talk about the mental aspect of each game I would say they are both on the same level. There is the clutch or pressure situation that they both have to deal with at all times. Also being able to keep focused and not go on tilt. As for the physical aspect I give tennis the edge by far. Also Roger is always playing the top athletes in the world in every tournament as golf can have a much different field, and yes you can argue it a different way. As I said again I am biased, but both are superior athletes Smile. I def would love to get some peoples opinions!

Also Jesse Witten, who was one of my teammates at Kentucky just beat the number 29 seed Igor Andreev in 3 sets. Congrats to him! www.usopen.org

"The Poker Film"-10k Drinking Prop Bet

August 24, 2009

Hi Guys,

My buddy was telling me about this film he saw yesterday where Jeff "Yellowsub86" Williams flew a guy from Connecticut down to UGA(University of Georgia) for a 10k drinking prop bet. The contender was Justin "yourtimeisup" Schwartz, which supposedly Josh "JJProdigy" Fields backs him for this bet. I won't get into many more details, but its definitely a solid video IMO. Enjoy....

Online Page Updates, 2009 WSOP Recap, PLO Swings, Ziig/Ivey 25k Dice Toss Vid

August 10, 2009

Hi Guys,

I apologize for not posting many blogs this past month, as I have been extremely busy, but as Boosted J says theres no excuse. It won't happen again Smile. As for the online page I added a new section called "pokernews trvia" which we will have a different trivia question once a wk. Matt Parvis(editor in chief) and I will try to come up with some good ones and not make the questions easy, so test your poker knowledge out. Also check out the twitter which has been up for awhile, there are usually several tweets a day that are a good read. As for the "HH's of the Day" Full Tilt changed their software from WindowsAPI to QT Software widgets. Basically you cannot copy the HH's anymore unless you are in the hand. From what I hear it was because of official poker rankings. Basically they were scraping too much data from FT. I don't know if that's true or not so don't quote me on it. I tested our hand replayers and they worked for Full Tilt/Stars, but not FT anymore obv. Hopefully we will have a solution soon so we can start pumping out more HH's. We have some great new bloggers that I have picked up; Lex "RaSZi" Veldhuis and Billy "durangodan35" Kopp(12th in ME) will be blogging soon.

The 2009 WSOP I felt was extremely exciting this year. I can't believe there were multiple bracelet winners. Jeff Lisandro, Brock Parker, and Greg Mueller. Vitaly Lunkin also had a sick run in all the big events too. I guess my question is will Phil Ivey win the ME? I hope he does as it will be good for poker. It will be very interesting to see and a lot of people are counting the days till November.

PLO=Stressful fn game for those of you who don't play. I suggest never learning if you can't deal with massive swings. This past month I have had days of +10k and losses of -9K. The limits I played were 2/4-10/20. I ended up making 6k for the month which is great, but I am going to drop down and only play 1/2-2/4 so it won't be as stressful.

Tonight I watched the Bills/Titans game and damn I cannot wait for NFL to start. I assume like many others that we all wait for that one day of the year.... drafting your fantasy football team. While I was doing the Sun Report tonight I watched the movie "21." I definitely recommend it for all you degens out there. Have a good day guys, GLGL!
