Musings on Poker and Other Stuff
I just got back from Texas last Monday and when I got an email saying I would be flying back to Dallas that Wenesday to be honest I wasn't overly thrilled. But I did my laundry, packed up that bag, rented a mini-van for the team and headed for Dallas. Flew UsAirways, had two delays in two flights. Sat in the middle both flights. Got charged a boat load for insurance to protect from the impending weather problems due to some hurricane.
And then things started to look up. We turned up the HIghway Man in the mini-van and headed out in the Sunset toward Thackerville Oklahoma. From the moment we arrived these people rocked my socks off. I arranged for a tour of the entire facility Day 1a. Had a blast shooting the shiz with the Poker Room Manager and the Marketing team.
Really, I already love the South and the Mid-West for that matter. But this just cemented it. People are so mellow and polite. I can think of tons of tournaments where we are sitting at our table and people will just come up and demand information or demand to use our phone chargers. It isn't what they are asking for, it is the way they do it. Here, everyone was very politely approaching with things like, "Excuse me, I don't mean to bother you, but could you please point me to this table," or "you wouldn't by any chance be able to help me find a plug for my phone for a few minutes." It is so funny how much more eager I am to help when someone just adds a little social nicety to things. Much Kudos to the people here.
Sometimes it is really difficult to get players to make a little bit of a fool of themselves. Not here! Everyone was willing and ready to sing a musical! People actually wanted to participate and were excited to watch when it was done. It felt like a community.
And even though the players didn't actually know the answers...they sure had some good ones of their own.
Everyone was talking about how this is one of the best kept secret tournaments. Well, word is out folks. I hope I come back next year and if you didn't come this year...COME!
Welp, we are nearly 27 events deep in the WSOP. As always it is going by SO fast. I was re-watching some of my favorite videos so far this year and figured I would post em up and see what you guys think to.
As I expected, my favorite so far is the THE STRADDLE. This is a Series where Kristy gets to just put together whatever she wants. She is so creative and works so well with her camera guy...everything they do is genius.
I personally love the chance to put poker players on blast. Facebook, along with a few other things, has essentially eliminated privacy. Thus, if you've done it...someone tweeted it, snapped a pic, Instagramed or Facebooked it. Looking forward to more of this series from the players who play on and off the felt.
Lynn has always been the best at blowing that bankroll. So she headed over to see what Vanessa Rousso had put together in terms of housing for some of pokers' best gals.
Obviously there are more gems coming out every day, so I'll keep adding and you guys keep letting us know what you love and hate.
So every now and then I like to post the most recent viral videos or things I've discovered on the internet that I love.
1. I used to go to Coachella every year. Here is a pic from one of the years I went with my LA crew. We stayed up almost the whole time with a few brief interludes of napping in the tent. Only to be awoken gross and sweaty when the sun rose on our tent...which was essentially a sauna by 6am. I had a blast and I am sad to see Coachella come and go minus me.
But who was there that you wouldn't expect? Tupac. Check it out.
HOLOGRAMS! Boom. My mom used to watch Star Trek when I was a kid, religiously. Even Deep Space Nine. And I remember I used to think that if I could only have a hologram reality I could be in love with whomever I wanted. I would pray for a Brad Pitt hologram. Welp, we are almost there! Yippie....next stop....fantasy land. Who would I pick now? What would YOUR hologram reality look like?
Now this little girl is making her own reality!
Obviously it is me, so I have to put a dog something in there somewhere.
And this one reminded me about the little pleasures we all enjoy in this life and sometimes forget to appreciate. LIKE MUSIC.
Hope you enjoy them as much I did this week! Off to Cebu on Thursday! Can't wait!!
I have been traveling pretty consistently for the last few months on the poker circuit. One of the interesting things about sitting around a table with 25 other people who are all surfing the web is that you start sharing the funniest and biggest internet sensations from your respective countries. There have been a few gems in the last few months of my life that definitely should be shared.
