Hello
Poker and Basketball
Let's see...where do I start?
I have been super busy these last few months and have actually had to cut down on playing. I've made some adjustments, said goodbye to Rush Poker because the games are absolutely atrociously dead, and decided to go back to mass tabling. I must say that it's a bit weird to see table dynamics develop once again because I was used to playing every hand in a vacuum. For April, I just finished a Mass Tabling series (16 Tabling 100NL on FTP). In addition, I'm going to be writing 5 blogs/month and the list for the rest of April will be as follows:
Balancing Poker and Life (Admittedly horrible at that these last few months)
Bankroll Management for Low Stakes Players
Finding a Game and Sticking to it
What to do with Winnings
Sadly enough, my printer broke last month and I had my first losing month September of 2009. It was a great stretch and had I tried to get unstuck, probably could have, but I almost wanted to give myself a reminder that you have to continually work at your game if you want to see results. Losing sight of that may have been one of the best things for my game long term because it forced me to once again rededicate myself. Given that I only played about half my normal volume, it was nice to rest.
As for basketball, my UConn Huskies defeated Nel's Kentucky Wildcats, but I'm sure you already knew that. I shipped my office pool (small $ win) but I'm more excited about the fact that the NBA Playoffs are coming up. I'm going to put my Round 1 picks up so I can pretend like I know what I'm talking about, and I think there are some really good series that we may end up seeing. I am a huge Boston Celtics fan and actually went to the game Friday night. It was my first court side experience and I will definitely do it again if I get the chance. Standings will probably look like this:
EASTERN WESTERN
1. Chicago 1. San Antonio
2. Boston 2. Los Angeles
3. Miami 3. Dallas
4. Orlando 4. Oklahoma City
5. Atlanta 5. Denver
6. Philadelphia 6. Portland
7. New York 7. New Orleans
8. Indiana 8. Memphis
In the East, we'll see 1>8, 2>7, 6>3, and 4>5. Philadelphia is super hot right now and I think they can beat the Heat. I hate Miami, straight up. I also don't think they will ever win a championship as the "big 3" without a true point guard or better size than Big Z in the middle. Chris Bosh is the second biggest offseason signing mistake next to Joe Johnson getting 6/$120M to stay in Atlanta.
In the West, we'll see 1>8, 2>7, 6>3, and 4>5 as well. The two single toughest series to pick are Dallas/Portland and OKC/Denver, but given that OKC now has size, they're a threat to beat anyone. On the other hand, Denver is playing better without Carmelo. For the series, Durant needs to average 33/5/7 and Westbrook like 27/11/6 and I think you'll see them go into the next round. Portland has amazing team chemistry right now and if they're healthy, I like them over Dallas (consistent underachievers in the playoffs, injured Caron Butler [UConn alum], etc.)
Stay tuned for updates and as always, if you have comments about videos or have intriguing requests for topics/ideas, let us know.
