All know it about poker but!!
If you want to learn to play Texas Hold'em poker, it will be very useful to know the rules of this wonderful card game. The simplified scheme of a poker game may be the following:
blind bets are made – the small blind and the big blind (usually the big blind is twice bigger than the small blind);
each player is dealt two face-down cards (also known as down cards or hole cards) – the pocket cards;
the first betting round (the pre-flop) takes place;
three open community cards are dealt face-up on board – the flop;
the second betting round takes place and one more card is dealt on board – the turn;
the third betting round takes place and the fifth (and the last) card is dealt on board – the river;
the fourth betting round takes place, and the active players show their cards – the showdown.
And now let us have a closer look at some of the basic rules and notions of Texas Hold'em poker.
Blind bets (or just blinds) are the forced bets in Texas Hold'em Poker. These bets form the initial pot. In every poker game the size of the blinds is determined individually.
Pocket cards are dealt face-down to each player individually. The player uses his pocket cards to make the hand (the combination of cards). Each player evaluates his pocket cards and decides if he should continue playing or not.
During each betting round the player can perform the following actions:
fold – throw the cards away and stop playing;
check – reject to act, but remain in the game; the player is allowed to check if none of the previous players have bet into the pot (except the blinds);
bet – to make a bet; the size of bet may be different and is determined before the game;
call – match the previous bet, i.e. put into the pot the sum of money which equals the sum put by the previous player;
raise – increase the previous bet, i.e. put into the pot the sum of money that is bigger than the sum put by the previous player;
re-raise – to raise the raise, i.e. put into the pot the sum of money that is bigger than the sum of the previous raise;
The order of acting is determined in the following way. The nominal dealer (the button) is represented by the dealer button. The player who sits to the left of him makes the small blind, the second player to the left of the nominal dealer makes the big blind. The player sitting next to the big blind is the first to start the betting on the pre-flop. After each deal the button is moved to the next player clockwise.
After the last (the fifth) card has been dealt on board, the showdown takes place, and the winning hand is determined. To make a hand in Texas Hold'em poker you can use any number of down and open cards, but the total number of cards in the hand must be five. The board cards can be used by all players.
If several players have winning hands of the same rank, they receive equal parts of the pot.
