The Power of Position

September 10, 2012

It's only natural that most beginning poker players focus too much on their cards, believing that the key factor in winning and losing money is how many times you're dealt big hands like pocket aces or pocket kings.

Play the game a little (or a lot ) more and you slowly but surely come to realize that in many cases your actual cards are irrelevant, with winning players spending much more time playing their opponents and taking advantage of their actual position at the table to win with a wide range of hands.

Having good position simply means you have more information to work with; more information in skilled hands is the biggest single factor in whether or not you walk away from the tables a winner, whether you're playing poker or other similar games such as vsJack.

So the next time you take a seat at the tables be sure you pay just as much attention to position and your opponents as you do to your cards. Profitable players can turn any two cards into a winner, especially if they pick good spots and understand the importance of position.
